His third film, Miruthan, was the first Indian film in Tamil language to feature zombies. His second film, Naaigal Jaakirathai, was the first Tamil film to feature a dog as the main protagonist. Rajan has a reputation for introducing different concepts to Tamil cinema relative to Hollywood films. Following a zombie film in Miruthan (2016), and a space film in Tik Tik Tik (2018), Shakti Soundar Rajan returned with one of the country's first live-action animated films, Teddy (2021). Soundar Rajan made his debut as a lead cinematographer with Sukran (2005), before going on to work on Kana Kandaen (2005), directed by his mentor K. Anand, who accepted him as an assistant, and they subsequently worked on films including Nerukku Ner (1997), Mudhalvan (1999) and Josh (2000), before continuing as an apprentice till Khakee (2004). Soundar Rajan completed a degree in Visual Communications at Loyola College, Chennai before approaching P. He graduated with Bachelor's degree in Visual Communications from Loyola College.
